Muthu’s Curry at Dempsey

It was one day before Father’s birthday and since it was a Sunday, we decided to go Long Beach at Dempsey. Unfortunately we forgot to make reservations. Usually I cook dinner on Sunday, so we are not too used to the concept that restaurants WILL be packed everywhere on Sundays. So no Long Beach.

We drove around Dempsey looking for a nice location for a family dinner. and we found ourselves at Muthu’s curry.

IMG_2150
Fish potato cutlets $4 for 2 pieces. So 4 pieces on this plate is $8.
Although the price was high, this was a must try. The crust was crispy, and the inside was soft and fluffy.

IMG_2151
Tandoor Chicken $11.00
The chicken was dry, lacking flavour and lacking the taste for the tandoor. Don’t bother ordering this.

IMG_2152
Muthu’s signature dish. Fish Head Curry for 2 people $20
This is over rated. Just very spicy. Fish is really fresh though. But we all agreed that the curry fish head mum buys from M’sia is much better.

IMG_2153
Butter Chicken $10
The butter chicken was the best dish of the night but the portion was very small. Like a knuckle size. Its worth ordering if you are willing to spend. Its creamy, and flavourful. Not spicy at all.

IMG_2154
Mutton Vindaloo $11
The mutton Vindaloo was not my favourite because I dislike mutton. But Yohan loves it. Yohan loves mutton and lamb, So he likes the dish. Its a good dish for people who like mutton, but its the least popular dish of the night since most of us dislike it.

I found out that citibank credit cards get 10% off on weekdays and AMex users have 15% off on weekdays too. We missed the discount since we went on a Sunday. I suggest you go on weekdays because the bill for 5 people came up to $93.55 after 10% service and 7%GST. And don’t order drinks especially the Lassi because it is way overpriced.

Kungfu Paradise at Sembawang Shopping Centre ($0.50 for extra cheese sauce!)

An $8.90 Cream pasta
Simple Ham and Mushroom in cream sauce. I guess it can’t go too wrong? Pasta can be rather overpriced if there is alot of pasta and very little meat and other ingredients.

Kungfu master salad $5.90
Asian salad with a thai touch. I guess it’s not too difficult. Just a mixture of Thai chilli and fish sauce for the dressing.

(From Left) Iced Milk Tea $2.60
Vanilla Milk Shake $4.90
Orange Delight Smoothie $5.90
All the drinks above are very much over priced. Why? BEcause the cups are very small. The Iced milk tea, bigger in size is small than the usual bubble tea cup. The ones next to the milk tea cup? Let’s just say its probably 250ml? And the drinks were not worth the price.

$8.90 Tomato sauced bake Rice

I can’t really remember what this dish is called. but the name I described pretty much says every thing about the dish. I would have preferred the ones from Swensen’s. This is one is cheaper though. and the star point is that it was served on a hot plate. But the rice was rather plain. Felt like something that can be made on your own, or anyone could have done better perhaps? Some cooked rice on a casserole, topped off with tomato pasta sauce (The prego brand kinds?), A few pieces of chicken and a generous covering of red cheddar and mozarella blend cheese. You can buy a pack of these cheese from Cold Storage for $2.99. Voila. Bake Rice.

$5.90 Cheesy Potato Wedges

This was the dish that drove me angry. The wedges was a big portion, but the cheese was not sufficient for the portion provided. I think its their tactic to make you pay or something, because extra cheese in that small saucer is $0.50. One extra wouldn’t be enough. You will probably need two. So I guess that makes you  pay an extra $1? I’m amazed how people put in effort to set up restautants and plan a menu, but the y don’t bother thinking about the portion they give.

The bill was $43, 10% $4.30 and 7% 3.31

Total

$50.61 for three people.

Ramen Play @ i12Katong and Seventh Haven Ice Cream

Yohan and I had dinner at Ramen Play, i12Katong (Sounds like I want to Katong?) It's not a place I would return to...

Felt like I was eating instant noodles.. The curry one.. It was rather pathetic for what it's worth $13.80 for the Pork Katsu Curry Ramen.. The soup was majorly curry powder in MSG in my opinion... The picture was misleading in the sense that we thought it would be Ramen in the curry sauce we eat in our favourite Japanese Curry rice.. Pork Katsu was good though... Breaded pork can't go too wrong right?

There was the bamboo chicken, top left corner.. $3 for half a bamboo of minced chicken meat. not worth $3 in my opinion. Its like 3 table spoons of minced chicken meat stuffed in a bamboo and char-grilled somehow. We were supposed to eat it with egg yolk, but the taste doesn't seem to match that well. Gyoza was pretty good. But they were a little stingy with the vinegar, which we can simply, of course take the trouble to ask for more. 6 pieces for $6.80. So that's $1.33 cents per piece? Ok.. Calculative much. But it was worthwhile... :)

After dinner, we had some ice cream. Butterscotch peacon was the first flavour the the second flavour was pistachio. :) They were both pretty good and pretty creamy. Only problem was that the flavour seemed to be lacking a strong taste. So after a few spoons of the ice cream, I felt like I was simply eating cream.

Seletar Hills Restaurant

IMG_1900[1]
Found the receipt to this post, So I updated the price.
But the dishes at this restaurant are really good. There are some must tries and some if you feel like eating them.
Stir fried long beans with beef $9. Home classic. This is really good as the long beans are cooked and crunchy. The meat sauce is a little spicy for those who are intolerant to spicy food.
干炒牛河 Stir fried beef hor fun $9. My favourite. This is a must order. The taste is awesome. The ‘wok’ taste is there, and it taste really good. Generous portions of meat. Makes me feel like eating another one right now.
Salt and Pepper Chicken $12. Details are foggy. Remembered it to be spicy and good. It taste really good and awesome!!!!!

Stir fried venison $16. Venison is overcooked perhaps. A little tough on the bite. Taste is good though.
Sweet and sour pork $12. Yummilicious good. Not the best I have tried so I won’t really recommend sweet and sour pork critics. If you aren’t looking for the best, you can order this.
Fried rice $8. I’m not a fan, but the rest of the diners rave about the dish.

Now the desserts
Mango pudding looking like a sunflower $3.80, 50% promo for diners. My favourite. There were mango chunks inside and it taste really good.
Sea coconut and almond jelly $3.80, 50% promos for diners. Not bad. Simple dish.

Chendol $3.80, my mother’s favourite. Good in her opinion.

Towel $1.50/pax

Chinese tea $1.50/pax

Tung Po Pork, no picture $10.00

Fried buns $0.40 /pax

PRICES ARE GST INCLUSIVE AND NO SERVICE CHARGE

Café Oliv at East Coast Road

Got a $9.90 deal coupon which includes soup of the day, a drink (top up for drinks like hazelnut latte with ice cream), entree and a dessert.. The offer was worthwhile cuz we were too full by the time we finished our food... And the food we ordered was awesome!!!

As seen in the collage in the bottom left, is Yohan's beef stew with pilaf rice... Everything was great... For a non rice fan, the rice was very good... Really fragrant and tasted awesome!!! And the photo is the collage bottom right, was my order, black pepper pesto chicken... Chicken was really really good.. It had char-grilled taste... Unlike Aston's which was always missing the char-grilled taste... The bad part would be the baby potatoes. It was slightly undercook for me... Yohan felt it was ok though... So up to personal preference I guess?

Dessert was worthwhile if it came in the set, but not so worthwhile as an ala carte purchase... I wouldn't recommend the mud pie cuz it had some kinda funny artificial taste though...

3.5/5

Kettle-Pi-Der

I bought some coupons to a restaurant in Thomson Plaza. Total let down. It was cheap. 1 main each (see photo below) 1 soup/drink each and a sharing dessert platter.
Furnishing and stuff were nice but the kitchen uses induction cooker, toasters, hot water pot, microwave oven.
Yohan and I shared the wrap by cutting our wrap into half and passing to each other. The wrap had a skin too thick and the ingredients were not wet enough to make it good. It lacks a moist factor in the wrap. Hence it was dry and not too tasty due to the overloaded skin.
Soup is... er-hem.... Instant hot water type. Yes...
My reaction to the soup!

I didnt take picture of the dessert platter cuz it wasnt that good. Ice cream was probably marigold or something?
